Helping Adolescents with Autism lead an Independent Life
New Focus Academy believes all teens deserve the chance to lead productive, independent lives. Our therapeutic residential program and autism school gives adolescents (ages 12-18) struggling with developmental delays a chance to gain the necessary skills to live independently. Through evidence-based methods, immersive experiential activities, and a longer length of stay, our students have the time to grow emotionally and socially while learning and applying valuable life skills.
IS YOUR FAMILY READY FOR A POSITIVE CHANGE?
You may be tired, overwhelmed, and feeling like you are out of options. Your child may be acting out or socially isolated. Siblings may feel neglected due to the effort required for your child’s unique struggles. Our admissions specialists are ready to listen.
HOW WE HELP
Learning Practical Life Skills
Over time, our students engage in real-life activities consistently in order to develop healthy habits. Students show mastery of the skill when they’re able to do it independently and teach it to others thoughtfully.
Sophisticated Treatments
Our founder, Dr. Brandon Park, is a Clinical Neuropsychologist & Behavioral Specialist who personally reviews each child’s profile to assist with creating a specific program tailored to how their brain is wired.
Doing It on Their Own
Increasing Independence is at the core of our program and belief system. Oftentimes, these young people don’t try anymore because they consider themselves “failures.” We work to disprove this and improve their self-esteem and overall happiness.
WHAT MAKES NEW FOCUS UNIQUE?
Our evidence-based program paired with our passionate staff create an environment built to inspire growth and independence in teens.
LEARNING & POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT
No child wants to feel like a failure. Programs based on compliance for the sake of following rules often don’t create a permanent shift in mindset. Our students learn the principles behind rules so they aren’t just blindly following a program’s expectations.
USING A STUDENT’S UNIQUE STRENGTHS
Too often a child’s diagnoses & limitations are the defining factor of identity. We base our treatment on the groundbreaking concepts of Positive Psychology. We highlight each student’s strengths and use them to create a plan based on building confidence and motivation for personal growth.
DIVERSE OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH
New Focus is more than a residential school setting. Students experience development through various opportunities designed to challenge. Life skills education, exposure to new experiences, and practicing concepts in real-life settings allows for greater independence in our students.
INVOLVING THE FAMILY IN TREATMENT
Our evidence-based treatment approaches are not just limited to the student. We involve the entire family in all aspects of your child’s treatment. From the initial assessment process to aftercare resources and support, the entire family is involved in creating lasting success for your child.
